Lawrence Binding

Lawrence Binding

President, Partner,
Director of Brand Planning

President of Commotion, Lawrence brings 25 years of marketing and advertising experience to the group. The first half of his career was spent in Toronto working for leading advertising agencies Saatchi & Saatchi, Carder Gray and DDB Needham. Brands he managed include Toyota Canada, Canadian Club Whisky, Ballantine’s Scotch as well as Bank of Montreal. A hi-light of this period was being a member of the team that launched Air Miles in Canada. Winning Bayer’s Adalat and Cipro business in the early 90s while at Carder Gray spurred an interest and eventually a total focus on healthcare marketing. An entrepreneur at heart, Lawrence started Cossette’s Healthcare Group in 1993/4, launched Marketel Pharma in 1998 and started Commotion Communications in 1999.

We believe that coded deeply into our DNA is the need to make good decisions quickly. Call it part of our survival code. While we humans have evolved, that part of our code remains as deeply embedded as ever.

What was once "survival of the fittest" is now "success to the brightest". And today, we all STILL want (need) to make good decisions, quickly. It's in our DNA.

The Marketing Lesson: Make the decision easy for the customer. The customer will love you for it.

Memory almost full…

Just before heading into work one day I had heard that King Louis XIV of France apparently only had three baths during his entire lifetime. With a mind for the trivial I was quite proud of my newfound information, stored it away, and shared this tidbit with my co-workers upon arrival.

When I sat down at my computer was when the trouble began. After staring blankly at my monitor for a minute I realized I NEEDED to upgrade the hard drive in my head. The IT person was more than happy to remind me of my email password.

Seasonally I always enjoyed decorating my office cubicle. One Christmas, I brought in a 6-foot tall, fuzzy, red stocking to hang. There was a column in my cubicle that was the perfect place - it looked so festive! The next day I came into work and the office was freezing. The receptionist called in a heating company and initially they couldn’t find the problem. Eventually the service technician located and unveiled the thermostat from behind my fuzzy stocking. Oops! I guess that ugly box I covered was actually serving a function – LOL.
